Dr. Hess graduated with honors from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 2006. Dr Hess completed a General Practice Residency at Palmetto Health Richland in Columbia, South Carolina in 2007. There he learned advanced skills and techniques in dentistry to include Cosmetic Dentistry, Root Canal Therapy, Implant Therapy, Crown and Bridge Treatment and Advanced Surgical Techniques. Our beautiful new office has been open since 2008 and incorporates all of the modern techniques and equipment that allow for the most advanced care possible. Since Dr. Hess began practicing dentistry, he has kept up to date on many continuing educational classes, ensuring that his patients receive the most comprehensive and advanced dental care. Dr. Hess is a member of the American Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentists, the South Carolina Dental Association and numerous dental study clubs. Dr. Hess and his wife of 15 years are the proud parents of three beautiful children. He enjoys time spent with family, biking, fly fishing and traveling.

In addition to the meticulous cleaning, polishing and examination of your teeth, we also take the time to help our patients develop proper oral hygiene habits at home. We will evaluate your hygiene techniques and make adjustments to your routine where needed. Dr. Hess and his specialists will also make suggestions for preventative measures such as dental sealants or nightguards to protect against teeth grinding and TMJ. During a dental exam, Dr. Hess will check your neck and oral tissues for lumps, red or white patches or recurring sore areas. If we feel that you are suffering from gingivitis or a more severe gum disease, we may recommend a root scaling or planning. These measures can be instrumental in preventing bone loss and helping you to keep your natural teeth.

We also specialize in cosmetic dentistry, bonding along with providing white fillings. A bonding is a composite resin that is used as an alternative to amalgams and veneers. This is an excellent cosmetic option for patients who do not want the look of silver in their mouths and do not want the expense of veneers. Bondings can be used on teeth that are decayed, cracked or stained. If you would like porcelain veneers, this is the perfect solution for patients with teeth that may have been chipped, become discolored, or are slightly crooked. If cared for properly, veneers will last a very long time and result in giving our patients a beautiful, attractive new smile.

Whitening and bleaching is used for patients’ teeth that have become discolored or stained over a long period of time. Whether this is from smoking, drinking coffee, or food staining, a beautiful smile could be yours. We offer a safe, inexpensive solution to an unsightly smile with a procedure that can be completed in a relatively short period of time.

When do you think you need a root canal? A root canal needs to be performed when a very deep cavity extends into the nerve of the tooth, a trauma has occurred to the tooth exposing the nerve, or a crack in the tooth has extended into the nerve of the tooth. If you are experiencing moderate to severe pain, sensitivity, or radiating pain from one area of the mouth to the other, you probably need to have a root canal.

As we get older, our teeth begin to change and are prone to decay. These changes occur due to teeth grinding, general decay, cracked fillings, root canals and many others. If your tooth is beyond repair with a filling material, we may recommend that the best viable option to save the tooth is a full crown. You can be comfortable in knowing that your new tooth will be virtually unnoticeable and will flawlessly compliment the rest of your smile.

You may need a bridge. This is one of the few options that you have in deciding how to deal with a missing tooth or teeth. The replacement of these missing teeth is necessary in order to maintain the proper mouth functions. Tooth loss can affect the way you eat, speak and the alignment of other teeth in your mouth.

Dental implants are becoming more popular in today’s dental society for a number of reasons. Implants are utilized to offer patients a foundation for new restorative teeth where natural teeth are missing, or have been extracted. The implant offers the patient the opportunity to regain normal function of the tooth without being forced to resort to a bridge or a denture.

What are dentures? Dentures are replacements for missing teeth that can be taken out and are exactly the same as one’s natural teeth, today’s dentures are natural looking and more comfortable than ever.

And, on a final note… sometimes extractions need to be performed. Some of the reasons to remove a tooth or teeth is due to crowding of teeth, red and swollen painful gums due to teeth being impacted, gum disease and tooth decay in some cases in which you may need to call us with a dental emergency.

Hopefully, all you will need to have done is a cleaning, but sometimes other procedures we talked about are needed in preventing tooth loss and tooth decay.

Don’t delay in calling for your appointment. If you don’t have that beautiful smile or want to keep your smile indefinitely, come see us! We are confident that you will feel right at home in our office and we welcome all patients as if they were family.
